What does connecting Shopify to Traceten give you?
Each paid Shopify order is credited to the AI assistant behind the visit, with the products in it, so you see what ChatGPT and Claude actually sold. You create an app on your own store with three read scopes. Traceten registers the webhooks and imports the last 60 days of paid orders.
What will you see in Traceten?
- Orders by AI assistant
- Every paid order is matched to its session and credited to that session's source, with the order value.
- Products per source
- Line items are kept on each order, so you can see which products each assistant sold.
- Guest checkouts
- An order with no usable email falls back to the cart token the snippet sets on your storefront.
- Refunds and cancellations
- A refund subtracts only the returned items. A cancelled order comes back out in full.
- 60 days of history
- Paid orders from the last 60 days are imported when you connect.
How do you connect Shopify?
- 01
Create an app on your store
In the Shopify Dev Dashboard, create an app with read_orders, read_customers and read_themes, then install it on your store.
- 02
Paste three fields
In Settings, then Integrations, choose Shopify and paste the .myshopify.com domain, Client ID and Client Secret.
- 03
Add the snippet to your theme
Paste the script tag just before </head> in your live theme's theme.liquid, and again whenever you change themes.
Questions
01Does Traceten get write access to my Shopify store?
No. It asks for three read scopes and refuses to connect without read_orders and read_customers. Connecting registers webhooks and creates no script tag, theme file or app block.
02Why do I paste the Shopify snippet by hand?
Connecting only registers webhooks, so nothing is installed on your storefront for you. The snippet goes in theme.liquid once, and again after a theme change.
03How does Traceten match a Shopify guest checkout?
It tries the buyer's email first, which is why read_customers is required. Without a match it falls back to the cart token the snippet sets on your storefront.
04How far back are Shopify orders imported?
60 days, which is as far back as the read_orders scope reaches. Earlier orders need a scope that Shopify grants only after a review.
